The student project is a precision machined hammer made from three different materials. The hammer head is made of stainless steel, the body is aluminum, and the plug is brass. This project allows the student the opportunity to machine different materials and also requires various “machining operations”. [<<< a link goes here]
Students will learn many of the basic lathe operations and mill setups. Students will gain experience using a lathe, mill, basic hand tools, bench grinders, belt sanders, drill press, and band saw. Other topics covered include blue-print reading, machine screw threads, and tolerance fits. This course is ideal for students pursuing careers in research.
